Remember my post from September 2018? If not, you can read my pub hopping route in London when we had a layover there on our way home from our honeymoon.
We happened to have another overnight layover in London on our trip to Italy and Greece just a few weeks ago (May 2019). We picked out some cool bars, and an amazing place to eat. If you have 6 hours, here is where to go.
On this trip, we stayed in the Covent Garden area at a hotel called Club Quarters Trafalgar Square. I really loved the hotel and the location is the best part.
Here is an overview of the route we took for the pubs and spots I talk about in this post:
Stop 1: Gordon’s Wine Bar
We tried to go here last year, but unless you plan to visit before 4PM, don’t expect to get a table right away. We made sure this was our first stop and were able to enjoy a bottle of rose outside. If you are hungry, they have an option to create some pretty cool charcuterie boards. What makes this wine bar so cool? This is London’s oldest wine bar, established in 1890! Check out the inside where there are seats in a cave!
Stop 2: Covent Garden
This isn’t a bar, but it is on the way to our next stop. I’ve seen some pretty cool pictures from people who have visited. It is a market full of cool places to eat, drink and shop at. It was super packed when we were here, so we didn’t spend too much time here.
Stop 3: Red Farm
This is one of the secret bars I wrote about in my last blog post. If you missed it, you can read all about it here
Stop 4: Neal’s Yard
What’s pub hopping without a little sight seeing. This spot is right on the way to the dinner spot I picked out. It is a small courtyard known for its brightly colored buildings!
Stop 5: Dinner at Chick n Sours
I think I stumbled across this restaurant from someone else’s blog post. This place did not disappoint! Not only did they have some pretty cool cocktails, they also had amazing fried chicken dishes that had some Korean inspired toppings.
Stop 6: Milroy’s of Soho
This is another one of the secret bars from the last blog post! You can check that post out here.
Stop 7: Mr. Fogg’s Society of Exploration
This by far is one of the most quirky bars I have been to. You will need to make a reservation as we learned that the hard way last year. You are greeted at the top of the stairs and are given a wood ball to send down the shoot to announce your arrival. You follow the ball down the stairs where you are met and taken to your table. The menu is travel themed and include some amazing illustrations. The drinks are super unique as are the drinking vessels. This location is one of 6 Mr. Fogg locations.
Stop 8: Sherlock Holmes’s Pub
If you aren’t too intoxicated from the other bars, end your night by visiting this bar. This happened to be right across the street from where we were staying. Though we didn’t make it here this time, we were here in 2018 and loved this bar!
Each time I find myself in London, I love being able to discover new bars and even hidden ones!
Is there a bar or restaurant I have to check out next time? Let me know!
