A few months ago, we had the chance to join our friends on a five day getaway while they were in the middle of their kitchen remodel. We had a bunch of cities on our list of options and ultimately decided on Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Surprisingly, the drive from Seattle wasn’t too bad. It took us about 5 hours and 30 minutes and we left right after work!
I didn’t do much research, but did have a few places on my list that I wanted to visit. After spending a few days wandering around Coeur d’Alene, here are the places I recommend!
Where to Stay
There are a ton of Airbnbs and hotels to choose from in Coeur d’Alene. There are two areas I would recommend staying in:
Near Riverstone Park:
- Address: 1500 W Riverstone Dr, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- Address: 1347 W Riverstone Dr, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
The Airbnb we stayed in (amazing views of the river)
Downtown Coeur d’Alene
- Address: 115 S 2nd St, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- Address: 105 E Wallace Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
Where to Eat
- Address: 115 S 2nd St, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- Dockside was a recommendation from someone. They told me I HAD to get a gooey. I had no clue what it was until we showed up at Dockside (at the Coeur d’Alene Resort) and found out it was like a bit ice cream sundae with elaborate toppings based on the type of gooey you were getting. We got a cookie monster gooey and it was delish!
- Address: 317 E Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- Honey Eatery is in an old building that has been restored, but still keeps some of the charm. Go for weekend brunch and get: Breakfast deviled eggs, honey fried rice and the buddha bowl.
- Address: 517 Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- This pizza spot serves Neopolitan style (thin crust) pizza as well as other Italian dishes and a great wine menu. We went specifically for the pizza and it didn’t disappoint. I recommend: parma, meat and crimini. It was enough for 4 people.
- Address: 1884 Bellerive Ln, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- Le Peep is the breakfast spot on the first floor of the Airbnb we were staying at. It ended up being a super popular spot. We got takeaway breakfast a few days and got to enjoy it in our Airbnb.
- Address: 523 Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- I have to say their menu is the cutest I have seen. It is written on grid paper and has a “handwritten” look to it. This is a great spot for a good burger and a cold beer. In the summer, there are a lot of tables outside.
Vine and Olive Eatery and Wine Bar
- Address: 2037 N Main St, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- We weren’t initially planning to eat here, but due to some longer wait times at other restaurants, we gave it a try. We ended up getting counter seating and enjoyed a bottle of wine plus some great pizzas and salads!
Shiki Sushi Bar & Japanese Grill
- Address: 221 Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- This is a great spot for sushi in downtown Coeur d’Alene! We didn’t have a bad roll!
Where to Drink
- Address: 2034 N Main St, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- Don’t let the pictures fool you online. This is an awesome place! They have some alcohol for sale, but it is an awesome spot for beer on tap and wine! They do also have food, but we didn’t eat here.
Dutch Bros
- Address: Various locations
- If you are a coffee lover, then you have to try Dutch Bros! There are Dutch Bros locations ranging from Washington down to Arizona and Nevada. I was happy to see they had them in Coeur d’Alene and even near where we were staying! My favorite drink to get is an iced cold brew kicker.
- Address: 3890 N Schreiber Way, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815
- We decided to switch it up and try a local winery. I recommend doing a tasting flight and also getting a cheeseboard. Everything was great here!
- Address: 3850 N Schreiber Way, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815
- This wouldn’t be a trip if we didn’t try some of the breweries in the area. Tricksters ended up having some great beer and a great indoor space. We found out that they have ties to a brewery we like to visit in Lake Chelan, WA. Tricksters is just a short walk away from Coeur d’Alene Cellars.
- Address: 5785 N Government Way, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815
- Paragon seems like it has quite the local following. We each got a few beers and surprise, I enjoyed the IPA’s the most. They do also have food, however, we did not eat here as we had just eaten.
- Address: 420 E Front Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- We stumbled upon the Buoy, which is located on the left side of the Coeur d’Alene resort. They serve up drinks and is located right at the lake front. When we were there, they had live music as well.
What to Do
Walk around downtown
Downtown Coeur d’Alene is super cute and quaint. It is right on the lake so it makes for some pretty amazing views.
Walk the longest floating board walk in the world
- Address: 115 S 2nd St #2738, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- This is the longest floating board walk in the world at: 3,300 feet long. You begin and end on either side of the Coeur d’Alene resort. In the summer you can rent water sport equipment from here and if you have a boat and live in the area you can keep your boat here as well.
Take a Lake Coeur d’Alene cruise
- Address: 115 S 2nd St, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- We would have never done this if it wasn’t for a local recommending it to us! We hopped on the cruise and got to grab a drink to enjoy during the cruise. It takes about an hour and drives you to see some pretty amazing mansions on Lake Coeur d’Alene, including one sitting on top of a rock! It will also take you right up to the golf course with the famed floating green.
Hike Tubbs Hill
Address: 208 S 3rd St, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
Tubbs Hill is right next to the Coeur d’Alene resort. It wraps around the lake and you can even hike up into the forest.
Golfing at Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course
- Address: 900 S Floating Green Dr, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
- My husband golfed this golf course. It is pretty exclusive and can be pricey as you are required to have a caddy and rent a cart. The highlight of the golf course is the floating green!
